Linguistics is in the blogging news, though I wish it wasn’t. For those of you unfamiliar with N. Ghoussoub’s blog, have a look at his note this week: The Business Development Bank gets into the “NSERC Act”. The entry concerns a grant submitted by our department to NSERC that was rejected by NSERC program staff because of potential relevance for the social sciences and humanities.
Well, who’d a thunk it? After denying that I would ever be head again, Gage’s hypnotic stare somehow undid years of firm intentions on my part and voilà, pblk as head for the next few years. I have definitely been doing a lot of head-scratching recently, and the most important result, I think, is my concluding that the administration of an excellent unit like ours should be possible in a way that is interesting, dynamic and sustainable.
