Are you interested in becoming an ESL teacher?
UBC has a deparment that offers a certificate or diploma in English as a Second Language teaching, the Language and Literacy Education Department (LLED). This can be taken while you are completing your degree in speech science or linguistics here at UBC. UBC offers: Academic English Support Program for students who speak English as an additional language:
http://cstudies.ubc.ca/aes/index.htmlThere is also an excellent language school on campus which is not part of UBC's academic programming. It is a non-credit skills oreinted programme through Continuing Studies. This is not building towards a degree. The English Language Institute (ELI)offers courses and programmes on a pay for service basis.
In addition, there are many excellent ESL programmes throughout the lower mainland.
